The Complete Guide To Halal Protein Powder
When it comes to improving your fitness levels, lifestyle and nutrition are key. From the number of hours of sleep you get each night to your daily nutrition and everything in between, each is as important as the other. This extends to finding the right protein powder to fuel your workout routine. Yet today more than ever, what goes into that shaker bottle now goes beyond macros and muscle; more and more people are asking themselves โ€“ โ€˜how does this protein powder align with my religious values and beliefs?โ€™ While weโ€™ve spoken before about our clean, research based and ethically sourced ingredients here at Innermost, this time we want to get a little more specific with a focus on halal and halal protein powder. With so many voices and fluff information around, it can be difficult to know exactly what protein is and isnโ€™t halal friendly. Thatโ€™s why weโ€™ve put together this nifty guide. Weโ€™re going to break down all the myths and everything you need to know about halal protein. What you should be looking out for, what makes proteins like whey halal friendly as well as the benefits that halal friendly protein can offer to your body.ย  Right, letโ€™s get into it. What is halal protein? Iโ€™m sure most of you are already aware of halal, but for the 1% of you that might not be, letโ€™s take a step back and ask: what is halal protein? Halal โ€“ meaning โ€˜permissibleโ€™ in Arabic โ€“ refers to any food product that complies with Islamic dietary laws as stated within the Qurโ€™an and Islamic jurisprudence. This makes it a core element of Islamic faith and a key cornerstone of their commitment to leading a pure and disciplined life under the guidance of Allah. Some of the key guidelines for halal foods include: Halal friendly ingredients โ€“ย certain ingredients are not permissible under a halal diet, including pork (and any byproducts), alcohol and blood. Other animal products can be halal as long as they are killed in accordance with the ethical treatment guidelines below. Ethical treatment of animals โ€“ For non-pork meats to be considered halal, animals must be treated humanly and responsibly during their life. This includes: Having access to clean water and nutritious food. Being raised in a free-range and stress-free environment. Not being subjected to cruelty, abuse, or unnecessary suffering. The process of killing any animal must also be quick and humane to be considered halal, with any suffering kept to the complete minimum. Importantly, to be considered halal, the name of Allah must be pronounced during the humane killing to ensure the sanctity of life is recognised throughout the process. No cross contamination - During the preparation process, halal foods must never come into contact with non halal foods. This means no cross contamination between preparation surfaces, equipment used, the handling of foods and storage. As such, ingredients such as milk can be halal however it depends on the production process and if additional non-halal additives (such as gelatin) are added. So, what does this mean for protein?ย  Essentially any animal protein is halal as long as it adheres to the guidelines weโ€™ve mentioned. The best way to tell is that products โ€“ such as Innermost proteins - will be certified halal friendly on the packaging. Is protein powder halal? So, with that said you might be wondering: is my choice of protein powder halal? The truth is that protein powder can absolutely be halal, however it entirely depends on the ingredients used as well as the overall production process. Common protein sources like whey, casein, egg white, and plant-based proteins (such as pea, soy, or rice) can all be halal if they are sourced and manufactured in compliance with halal standards. While many of the larger brands do not meet these standards and cannot claim to offer halal protein, our range of Innermost protein powders and supplements are all certified halal, emphasising our dedication to ethical sourcing our use of clean sourcing without additives. From our pea protein fuelled (and vegan) The Health Protein, The Fit Protein, to our whey protein powered The Strong Protein and The Lean Protein, all our products are sourced in a halal-compliant manner. Benefits of halal protein powder You hear it all the time when it comes to ethical and dietary beliefs โ€“ โ€˜a vegan diet isnโ€™t good for youโ€™ or โ€˜a vegetarian mix canโ€™t possibly have the nutrients you need. The reality is, that adhering to these sorts of values within your fitness routine and diet can have great benefits for the body. Halal protein powders are no different; they offer a range of benefits for individuals who are conscious of both their health and dietary requirements. Just some of the benefits of halal protein powder are: Clean ingredients: With halal protein powders, you can be confident that there will be no harmful or questionable ingredients/ additives such as silica. What does this mean? Your body has an easier job digesting and absorbing all the good stuff, ensuring you get the most out of your supplements. Quality protein: Halal protein powders use complete protein sources, ensuring your body gets all the amino acids it needs for effective muscle repair and growth.ย  Ethical production: Weโ€™ve mentioned plenty of times already, but thatโ€™s just how key ethical and clean production is to making protein halal. By avoiding things such as additional additives and cross contamination, your body is fuelled with a safer and more trustworthy supplement. Supports fitness and wellness goals: Whatever your fitness goals; halal protein has you covered. From building muscle to losing weight, the absence of excess sugars or fillers ensures you are best placed to smash your targets. Common misconceptions about halal protein powders With so much noise and no real answers around halal proteins, we thought it would be helpful to list of some of the key misconceptions regarding the diet and what the actual truths are. All vegan protein powders are halal Given that so much of halal is driven by animals and their ethical treatment, you might just assume every vegan protein powder is halal because it is made of.. well, plants. The reality however is that vegan proteins arenโ€™t necessarily halal โ€“ it all comes down to the production process. While Innermost vegan proteins are proudly halal certified, other protein powders can be produced with alcohol-based flavourings, non-halal emulsifiers, or might be processed in facilities that handle haram products โ€“ leading to cross contamination โ€“ not good! Is whey protein halal? On the other side of the spectrum, whey protein โ€“ being a byproduct of milk โ€“ is generally considered to be haram. Again, the truth is that whey protein can be halal provided that the milk is taken from cows that were treated ethically and within halal principles. Today, there are many halal-certified whey protein powders that are safe and effective for Muslim consumers. Halal certification doesnโ€™t matter There is often an assumption made that if the ingredients look clean then the protein must be halal โ€“ regardless of certification. The truth is that what makes something halal goes beyond ingredients. Production and sourcing our also key factors that many companies do not consider. With halal certification on your favourite protein powders, you can be sure that every stepโ€”from sourcing and production to packaging and distributionโ€”has been reviewed and approved according to strict halal standards.ย  Is Innermost protein powder halal? In short, yes. We at Innermost make it our mission to not only aid in muscle growth and recovery, but also to create protein supplements that are ethically sourced and rigorously tested to ensure individuals of any faith can smash their fitness goals.ย  Unlike competitors, our proteins are clean and built with the highest quality of ingredients and free from unnecessary additives and artificial ingredients. ย  We are proud to say that all our products are officially halal certified making them a suitable choice for those following the halal beliefs. This certification ensures that all ingredients and manufacturing processes meet Islamic dietary laws, with no use of haram substances such as pork derivatives or alcohol. With this in mind, why not check out our range of Innermost supplements to find out more about our halal proteins? ย  ย  Read more

The Benefits Of Vegan Protein Powder
Why Creatine is Having a Moment
If you said โ€œcreatineโ€ ten years ago, most people wouldโ€™ve pictured a guy at the gym, slamming a protein shake the size of a fire extinguisher. Fast forward to today, and creatine is gaining more traction than ever โ€“ but not for the reasons you'd expect. Itโ€™s not just about size or strength anymore. Itโ€™s about mental sharpness. Recovery. Longevity. Hormonal support. Healthy ageing. And while itโ€™s long been the most studied supplement in sports nutrition, new research is changing how we think about it โ€“ and who itโ€™s for. Letโ€™s break it down. First: What actually is Creatine? Creatine is a naturally occurring compound your body produces (and you get in small amounts from red meat and fish). Itโ€™s stored mostly in your muscles and brain, where it helps regenerate adenosine triphosphate (ATP) โ€“ your bodyโ€™s main energy currency. In plain English? It helps you produce energy faster and more efficiently. Thatโ€™s why creatineโ€™s been a staple for athletes and weightlifters for decades โ€“ because it enhances performance, power, and recovery. But thatโ€™s just scratching the surface. Reason 1: The science has evolved The benefits of creatine arenโ€™t limited to physical performance anymore. In recent years, researchers have started to uncover its role in cognitive function, mental fatigue, and neuroprotection โ€“ especially under stress or during sleep deprivation. A 2021 systematic review published in Nutrients found that creatine supplementation โ€œmay improve short-term memory and intelligence/reasoningโ€ โ€“ particularly in people who are sleep-deprived, stressed, or ageing . Another study in Psychopharmacology found that supplementing with creatine significantly improved working memory and information processing speed in healthy adults . We're also seeing promising links between creatine and age-related cognitive decline. Thereโ€™s emerging evidence suggesting it may support brain health in older adults โ€“ acting as a protective buffer against neurological degeneration . In short: creatine is no longer just a โ€œperformanceโ€ supplement. Itโ€™s increasingly viewed as a daily health essential โ€“ especially for your brain. Reason 2: Women are in โ€“ and rightly so Historically, creatine marketing catered almost exclusively to men. The packaging was aggressive, the messaging all about muscle mass, and there was a persistent myth that creatine would cause bloating or bulkiness. Itโ€™s no surprise women stayed away. But now? That narrative is breaking down fast โ€“ and the science is doing the talking. Studies show that creatine may be especially important for women โ€“ particularly through perimenopause, menopause, and beyond. Research published in Nutrients highlights that creatine supplementation can support muscle strength, bone density, and mood regulation in women during and after menopause . Itโ€™s also been shown to help maintain lean muscle mass and support cognitive function during hormonal fluctuations โ€“ making it a powerful ally for long-term wellbeing. And no, it wonโ€™t make you puffy. The โ€œbloatingโ€ myth comes from a misunderstanding: creatine draws water into your muscle cells (where it belongs), which actually supports performance, hydration, and cell integrity. This isnโ€™t about bulking. Itโ€™s about feeling energised, strong, and supported in your body โ€“ no matter your life stage. Reason 3: Itโ€™s not just for the gym anymore The old creatine image was all about barbells and bench presses. But modern life demands more than just gym gains. We want to feel good, stay sharp, move well, and perform in life โ€“ not just during workouts. Creatine helps with all of it. Whether you're training hard, working late, chasing your kids around, or trying to keep brain fog at bay โ€“ creatine supports energy production, improves recovery, and sharpens your thinking. Even endurance athletes, office workers, and biohackers are getting in on the action. One study found that creatine enhanced oxygen consumption and reduced fatigue during long bouts of aerobic exercise . Put simply: creatine helps you show up as the best version of yourself, wherever life takes you. Reason 4: Youโ€™ve got options now Hereโ€™s the good news โ€“ the supplement industry is finally catching up. Gone are the days of industrial-sized tubs and confusing dosing instructions. At Innermost, weโ€™ve reimagined creatine in a way thatโ€™s clean, purposeful, and fits into real life. At innermost, youโ€™ve got two simple options: The Power Booster โ€“ our pure, pharmaceutical-grade creatine monohydrate. Zero additives. Just high-quality creatine in its most effective form. The Strong Protein โ€“ our intelligent protein blend for strength and recovery, with creatine built-in alongside nootropics, anti-inflammatory ingredients, and functional adaptogens. One blend, multiple benefits. Both options are designed for people who care about their health, performance, and clarity โ€“ not just their biceps. FINAL THOUGHTS Creatine isnโ€™t new. But the way we understand it - and who itโ€™s for - absolutely is. Itโ€™s not just about muscle. Itโ€™s about mood. Memory. Mental sharpness. Movement. And supporting your body through every season of life. Whether youโ€™re lifting, learning, leading, or just looking to feel a little more like yourself again - creatine could be one of the smartest additions to your daily routine. Read more
Whey Protein 101: Everything You Need to Know
If youโ€™re at all interested in health, fitness or nutrition, youโ€™ve probably heard about whey protein. Itโ€™s one of the most commonly used sources of protein for supplements and it can offer a wide range of benefits to users.ย  But letโ€™s hit the brakes a second โ€“ what exactly is whey protein? And what are these supposed benefits? Letโ€™s break it down.ย  What is whey protein? Whey protein is a high-quality protein source which comes from whey (no prizes for guessing that) โ€“ otherwise known as the watery stuff which separates from the curds when making cheese. Once separated, the whey is processed to remove lactose and other components we donโ€™t need, leaving behind a concentrated whey protein which is then dried into a powder form. Sounds a bit strange, granted, but itโ€™s a real powerhouse. Whey protein is a complete protein, meaning it contains all nine essential amino acids (the ones our bodies canโ€™t make on their own). Itโ€™s also quickly absorbed by the body, making it a great choice for a post-workout refuel. Benefits of whey protein With comparisons out the way, what are the benefits of adding whey protein into your workout plan? 1. High nutritional value Whey protein is widely considered the best form of protein supplement because of its superior nutritional profile. Not just a complete protein, whey typically contains more protein per serving and is absorbed by your gut much faster than other types of protein. In short, you get more of the good stuff and you get it faster, too. Win-win. 2. Supports muscle growth and repair Whey proteinโ€™s high protein content and broad suite of amino acids makes it perfect for both muscle repair and those looking for gains. Whey contains a high concentration of the BCAA leucine, which is the primary amino acid involved in muscle growth. This makes it a great accompaniment to your workout routine. Regular intake of whey protein has also been shown to help reduce inflammation throughout the body, which is a huge plus for recovery and general wellbeing. 3. Supports weight management and satiety Whey isnโ€™t just a great supplement for muscle growth, it can also be hugely beneficial for those trying to manage their weight. Whey protein has been shown to significantly reduce feelings of hunger, which can make it much easier to stay on track with a healthy diet. For example, Innermostโ€™s The Strong Protein contains just 147 calories for a 40g serving, making it an effective, delicious and convenient solution to keep on deck.ย  4. Convenient and versatile Speaking of convenience, it doesnโ€™t really get more convenient than whey protein. You can throw together a delicious, nutritious shake in seconds whether youโ€™ve got your favourite milk on hand or just water. Or, if youโ€™re feeling creative, head to the kitchen and bake with it (protein pancakes โ€“ yum), or mix it into oats, yoghurts and smoothies for some serious treats that taste and feel good. Whether youโ€™ve got time to cook up a storm or youโ€™ve only got 30 seconds before you need to be out the door, whey protein makes nutrition easy. How can whey protein support your fitness goals?ย  Whey protein is a great supplement for a range of fitness goals. Letโ€™s take a look at how. If youโ€™re trying to build muscleโ€ฆ Whey alone wonโ€™t do the job โ€“ youโ€™ve gotta put the work in. When youโ€™re done sweating up a storm, take your whey right after your workout (as soon as possible but definitely within 60 minutes for maximum impact).ย  Whey helps to repair muscles which are damaged during exercise as well as promoting growth to make you stronger for next time. You know what they say, no pain, no gainโ€ฆ If you want to push your workouts even further with whey on hand to repair the damage, try pairing your protein shake with The Power Booster for an extra hit of power, strength and speed. If youโ€™re focused on fat lossโ€ฆ Swap out the snacks for a whey protein shake to cut down on calories and keep you fuller for longer between meals. The high protein content of whey can also help to preserve muscle mass if youโ€™re in a calorie deficit, which is another big plus.ย  If youโ€™re training for performance or enduranceโ€ฆ When youโ€™re looking to perform at a high level or for an extended period of time, repetition is a key part of the process. However, with repetition comes aches, pains and inevitable recovery time. Whey protein is a great recovery aid which can help to reduce muscle soreness and support your immune system while your body is undergoing physical stress. Work whey into your diet and get back on the grind in no time. How does whey compare to other proteins? When youโ€™re shopping around for the best protein, there are a lot of factors to consider. Letโ€™s take a quick look at how whey protein stacks up against the competition. Whey vs casein protein Both whey and casein are derived from milk, with casein making up around 80% of the total protein content of milk. The question here is: why isnโ€™t casein seen as much on the shelves?ย  There are a few reasons, one of the main ones being casein is absorbed by the body at a much slower rate. The amino acids in whey protein stay in your bloodstream for around 90 minutes until theyโ€™re absorbed, whereas casein amino acids can stay in your system for as long as five hours. If youโ€™re looking for a quick hit, especially after a workout, whey is the way to go.ย  The branched-chain amino acid (BCAA) profile of whey is also superior to casein, meaning it can be more effective at building muscle.ย  Whey vs soy protein Soy offers a good alternative option for many as itโ€™s a plant-based source of protein which also contains all nine essential amino acids. While studies have shown little difference in muscle growth and strength development between soy and whey protein, there are other downsides to soy protein which whey doesnโ€™t have. Soy protein contains considerably less leucine and lysine than whey (the amino acids responsible for muscle growth and repair, blood sugar regulation and the production of hormones and energy), which can be a big turn off for many.ย  As such, whey is widely considered a higher-quality protein source than soy, but soy protein typically comes with a smaller price tag, making it an appealing choice for many. Whey vs pea & rice protein Two other popular sources of protein are pea and rice protein. These are often used together, like in The Fit Protein or The Health Protein, to offer a balanced and well-rounded vegan protein option. Both rice and pea protein contain all nine essential amino acids, albeit in a slightly lower density than whey. To put it plainly, whey retains its crown as the most complete protein source, but for those who canโ€™t or donโ€™t want to have whey, pea and rice protein offer a fantastic option. ย  Itโ€™s the whey to go When it comes to protein supplements, whey is widely considered to be the most complete form you can get your hands on โ€“ and for good reason.ย  With a high concentration of protein per serving, broad range of amino acids and huge variety of ways to enjoy it, whey is an easy way to support your fitness goals, whatever they are. If you canโ€™t have whey, or maybe just donโ€™t want to, check out our range of vegan supplements for some plant-based alternatives. ย  Weโ€™ve shown you the whey (sorry), now go forth and conquer.ย  References Schoenfeld, B., Aragon, A. The Dangers of Silica
Ever opened a sachet of hydration powder, only to have a puff of dust cloud waft up into your nostrils? You're not imagining it. Most electrolyte drinks on the market contain silica - a synthetic anti-caking agent added to keep powders dry, free-flowing, and easy to manufacture at scale. Itโ€™s one of those behind-the-scenes ingredients that doesnโ€™t need to be thereโ€ฆ unless your priority is speed and profit margins, not people. Letโ€™s break this down. What is silica? Silica (aka silicon dioxide) is a compound found in sand, quartz, those little sachets that come with new shoes, and yes - in many processed foods and supplement powders. In this industry, itโ€™s added to prevent clumping and help powders flow smoothly and zip through high-speed packaging machines. Itโ€™s not added for your health. Itโ€™s added for efficiency.ย  And hereโ€™s the thing: silica is not inherently dangerous when eaten in small quantities โ€” it occurs naturally in some foods, after all. But when itโ€™s inhaled, itโ€™s a whole different story. Letโ€™s talk about silicosis Silicosis is a serious lung disease caused by breathing in fine particles of silica.ย  Many of these powders are so bone-dry and ultrafine that you canโ€™t help but inhale a bit when you open a sachet. And while regulators have deemed it โ€œsafeโ€ for consumption, theyโ€™re not telling you what happens when youโ€™re breathing that dust in day after day. We think it matters. Why itโ€™s used anyway (and why we donโ€™t). Silica makes life easier for big manufacturers. When a powder is dry and ultra-fine, it runs like a dream through industrial machinery. That means more sachets filled per minute, fewer machine stoppages, and higher production yields. In other words: cheaper, faster, more profitable. Itโ€™s what most brands do - especially the ones backed by big investors who demand a return on their money. Thatโ€™s just the way it works. Innermost is proudly independent. Something we donโ€™t talk about often enough is that weโ€™re 100% self-owned. No outside investors. No pressure to cut corners to meet someone elseโ€™s margin goals. That means we get to put your health - not shareholder value - first. We created The Hydrate Blend to be 100% natural, functional, and free from synthetic fillers. No nasties. No shortcuts. And absolutely no silica. Yes, it might cost a little more than the cheapest stuff on the market - but itโ€™s better for your body, and your lungs. Letโ€™s call it what it is. Most people will never think twice about inhaling the powder that wafts up out of their electrolyte powder. But we do. Because we know the supplement industry loves to hide behind shortcuts and call it innovation. Loves to throw in cheap ingredients because theyโ€™re easier - not because theyโ€™re better. Loves to race to the bottom on cost while pretending theyโ€™re leading on health. Thatโ€™s not us. Thatโ€™s never been us. Weโ€™re not here to cut corners. Weโ€™re here to raise standards. And sometimes that means doing things the hard way - like formulating a hydration product without any silica in it, knowing full well itโ€™ll be way harder to do. But your health is worth the effort. Electrolytes 101: What Are They and Why Do We Need Them?
Electrolytes. Youโ€™ve seen the word plastered across sports drinks, hydration tablets, and wellness blogs. You know they have something to do with hydration and performance. But do you really need them? Or is this just another overhyped wellness buzzword? Letโ€™s look at what electrolytes are, the benefits they offer and why not all electrolyte supplements are created equal.ย  What are electrolytes? The answer to this question is quite simple โ€“ but the way they work is not.ย  Electrolytes are essentially minerals which carry an electric charge (not a scary one) when dissolved in water1. Theyโ€™re like your bodyโ€™s spark plugs, helping things kick into gear as they should.ย  The main electrolytes include: Sodium โ€“ works to regulate blood pressure and fluid balance. Potassium โ€“ supports nerves and muscles to do their job. Magnesium -ย  helps your cells turn nutrients into energy. Calcium โ€“ crucial for muscle contraction. Chloride, phosphate and bicarbonate โ€“ย work together to regulate fluid and pH balance. You can find these electrolytes in the foods you eat (leafy greens, yoghurt and bananas are great picks), the fluids you drink, or the supplements you enjoy.ย  Why do we need electrolytes? Without electrolytes, you literally canโ€™t function. Itโ€™s that simple. Theyโ€™re a critical part of proper nutrition.ย  You could have all the water in the world but it doesnโ€™t mean much if you donโ€™t have electrolytes, too. Too much water without electrolytes can actually cause an imbalance in the body, which can lead to water intoxication โ€“ basically where the sodium in your blood is too diluted. This can be very dangerous.ย  For most of us in our day-to-day lives, the benefits of electrolytes are less about survival and more about optimal performance. Staying adequately topped up on electrolytes helps the water get to where itโ€™s needed in your body, supports your muscles through contraction and relaxation in every move you make, transmits nervous system signals between your brain and body, and keeps your pH in the Goldilocks zone (not too acidic, not too alkaline)2.ย  Cramp, dizziness, brain fog โ€“ all of these things can be explained by an electrolyte imbalance.ย  Water vs electrolytes: what is hydration? โ€˜Drink more waterโ€™ is usually most peopleโ€™s answer to any question about why youโ€™re not feeling great. We donโ€™t disagree with the intention but the execution could use some work.ย  Water is crucial. Hydration is crucial. But water โ‰  hydration. Water is a big part of it, but the real equation is water + electrolytes = hydration. Without electrolytes, the water canโ€™t get where it needs to be in the body, and youโ€™ll be missing out on all the different fuels it needs.ย  When you sweat, youโ€™re not just losing water, youโ€™re losing electrolytes too3. Try chugging a bottle of water after a tough workout, youโ€™ll probably feel bloated and flat. Then, try adding electrolytes into the mix and weโ€™re willing to bet youโ€™ll feel a whole lot better.ย  Think of it like charging your phone. You can plug it in (the water) but if you donโ€™t turn on the power (electrolytes), youโ€™re not really getting anything.ย  Why most electrolyte drinks donโ€™t cut it With all this newfound knowledge, youโ€™re probably eager to grab a convenient electrolyte drink from the shop after your next workout โ€“ but maybe you should hold off for a minute. Let us elaborate. Stop by any store or gym vending machine and youโ€™ll see countless colourful electrolyte drink options, but are they really giving you what you need? They might contain electrolytes, sure, but in reality theyโ€™re just glorified sugar water. Some electrolyte drinks contain almost as much sugar as a can of [insert soda brand here]4, which spikes your blood sugar and leads to crashes later in the day. Theyโ€™re also rammed with artificial flavours and colours (you didnโ€™t think that neon orange drink was natural, did you?), as well as unbalanced electrolyte profiles.ย  They might make you feel sporty, but they donโ€™t give you what you really need after a gruelling workout. A smarter way to hydrate โ€“ electrolyte supplements In order to properly replenish your body, you need a balanced, unadulterated electrolyte supplement. We were tired of searching the shelves for something which gave us exactly that, so we decided to make one ourselves. Innermostโ€™s The Hydrate Blend is an all-in-one solution for optimal hydration, energy and performance. Itโ€™s perfectly balanced with a complete electrolyte spectrum and enhanced with extra vitamins and minerals to work just as hard as you do.ย  Available in Lemon and Mint, Elderberry or Orange flavours, simply add one sachet into 500ml of cold water and shake (or stir, whatever floats your boat). In seconds youโ€™ve got a clean, hydrating and delicious electrolyte drink to keep you going all day.ย  Cut the faff, get what you need โ€“ nothing else.ย  Final sip โ€“ the benefits of electrolytes Sodium, magnesium, calcium, chloride โ€“ electrolytes can sound complicated, but they really arenโ€™t. However scientific you get with it, the end point is they help your body run smoothly. Without them, youโ€™re fighting a losing battle.ย  Next time you reach for that bottle of water after a workout, throw a sachet of The Hydrate Blend in first and your body will thank you for it. Remember, water canโ€™t do anything if thereโ€™s nothing there to help absorb it.ย  Hereโ€™s to balance, hydration and energy. Cheers! From Couch to 21.1k: How to Train For A Half Marathon As a Beginner
New Year, New Diet?
The new year is here, and with it comes the inevitable question: โ€œWhatโ€™s the best diet to follow this year?โ€ Itโ€™s an exciting thought, isnโ€™t it? A fresh start. A chance to get fit, shed some weight, and hit reset on your health. And while the latest trends and diets promise to be โ€œthe one,โ€ letโ€™s take a moment to slow down and look at what really works. The Hard Truth Most diets fail not because they donโ€™t work, but because they donโ€™t fit into real life. Think about it. Youโ€™re pumped, youโ€™re excited, and youโ€™re unstoppable โ€” for about two weeks. Then life happens. Motivation fades (statistically, most resolutions crumble by mid-January), the restrictive nature of your new plan starts to feel like a burden, and it all falls apart. Sound familiar? The issue isnโ€™t necessarily the diet itself โ€” itโ€™s that most diets arenโ€™t realistic. You donโ€™t need to overhaul your entire lifestyle or follow extreme rules to get healthier. In fact, sometimes the simplest, most sustainable habits will give you the biggest results. But letโ€™s not completely dismiss diets. Different approaches work for different people. So, letโ€™s take a closer look at some of the most popular diets right now, their pros and cons, and whether they might work for you. Keto (Low Carb, High Fat) Pros: Proven to help with rapid weight loss and can regulate blood sugar levels. For those with insulin sensitivity or certain health conditions, it can be transformative. Cons: Extremely restrictive. Eliminates most carbs, which can be a nightmare if you love bread, rice, or pasta. Social situations? Awkward. Meal planning? Time-consuming. Real Talk: If youโ€™re someone who can commit to a high-fat, low-carb diet, itโ€™s effective. But if your idea of happiness is pizza night, Keto might feel like a punishment. Proceed with caution. Paleo (Eat Like a Caveman) Pros: Encourages whole, unprocessed foods like lean proteins, veggies, and healthy fats. Itโ€™s a good way to clean up your eating habits. Cons: Cuts out entire food groups like dairy, grains, and legumes. Goodbye peanut butter sandwiches. Real Talk: Paleo is great if you enjoy simple meals and want to avoid processed foods. But for most people, cutting out grains and dairy forever is a tall order. Intermittent Fasting (Timing Over Calories) Pros: Simplifies eating patterns and can help with weight loss without needing to obsess over calorie counting. Cons: Not ideal for those who experience energy crashes or get โ€œhangry.โ€ Skipping meals isnโ€™t for everyone. Real Talk: If you thrive with structure and enjoy skipping breakfast, intermittent fasting can work. But if skipping meals leaves you cranky or fatigued, itโ€™s probably not the best fit. Mediterranean Diet (The Gold Standard) Pros: Loads of research supports its benefits for heart health, weight maintenance, and longevity. A balanced mix of carbs, fats, and proteins makes it more sustainable long-term. Cons: Itโ€™s less trendy, which means it doesnโ€™t always grab the spotlight. Plus, it might require some adjustments if your current diet is heavy on processed foods. Real Talk: This is less of a โ€œdietโ€ and more of a lifestyle change. If youโ€™re looking for something sustainable and flexible, the Mediterranean diet is a great option. So, Whatโ€™s the Answer? Forget about finding the perfect diet. The truth is the best diet is the one that works for you. Hereโ€™s the formula that never fails: Eat nutritious food in balanced portions. Move your body regularly (whatever movement you enjoy!). Prioritise sleep โ€” the underrated superhero of health. Sustainability is key. A diet should fit into your life, not the other way around. If it feels like torture or disrupts every meal with friends or family, itโ€™s not going to last. Itโ€™s also worth considering why youโ€™re dieting. If youโ€™re looking for weight loss, remember that consistency beats intensity. Healthy habits โ€” like eating balanced meals and getting regular exercise โ€” will take you farther than any extreme diet ever could. A Word on Motivation Hereโ€™s the catch: motivation is temporary. Itโ€™s the honeymoon phase of any resolution, but it doesnโ€™t last. What does last is routine. Building habits that work for you โ€” not against you โ€” is the real secret to success. No single diet is the holy grail. The truth is that most diets will work if you stick to them. The challenge is finding something that fits into your life seamlessly. Thatโ€™s why itโ€™s better to focus on balance and habits rather than perfection. My Diet Advice for 2025 Diets can be useful tools, but theyโ€™re not magic. Start small. Incorporate more whole foods and keep your portions in check. Move your body in a way that feels good โ€” not as punishment, but as celebration. And donโ€™t underestimate the power of great sleep. Thereโ€™s no shame in trying a trendy diet if it motivates you to kickstart your health journey. Just remember, a diet is a tool, not a magic solution. If it doesnโ€™t fit your lifestyle, itโ€™s not you failing โ€” itโ€™s the diet and donโ€™t beat yourself up about it. Focus on building habits you can stick with and remember that health isnโ€™t a sprint, itโ€™s a marathon. Read more
How to Beat Imposter Syndrome, According to Experts
Do you ever feel like a fraud at work? Or worry that people wonโ€™t love the โ€˜realโ€™ you? Even when you have evidence that suggests none of the above is true? Then, you could be experiencing imposter syndrome - and, youโ€™re not the only one.ย  Research shows imposter syndrome is a universal struggle with one review finding that up to 82% of people could be experiencing imposter syndrome and suffer from anxiety, burnout and exhaustion because of it. While imposter syndrome can feel deflating and challenging, the good news is that there are steps you can take to overcome self-doubt and boost self-confidence, so you stop holding yourself back from reaching your full potential To help you leave imposter syndrome behind for good, we spoke to two experts to bring you everything you need to know including how to spot it and how to beat it.ย  What Is Imposter Syndrome? โ€œImposter syndrome is the overwhelming feeling of self-doubt or fear of being exposed as a โ€˜fraudโ€™,โ€ explains Holistic Health & Wellness Coach Christina Calderwood. When we experience imposter syndrome itโ€™s because we believe on some level that our achievements are down to luck or other factors and not our own ability, and we feel unworthy of our success. โ€œThose with imposter syndrome worry that others will eventually uncover the โ€˜truthโ€™ and see their perceived lack of skill and capability, despite evidence of their success and achievements,โ€ Christina adds.ย  Signs of Imposter Syndrome Imposter syndrome can show up in different ways and may show up differently depending on the scenario you are in.ย  For example, imposter syndrome at work can look like questioning if your contributions are valuable and choosing to stay silent out of fear. In friendships it can look like worrying what others think of you and in romantic relationships you might feel you're undeserving of your partner's love and affection. Imposter syndrome often shows up in self-limiting thoughts and beliefs, and the stories we tell ourselves. According to Christina, some of the most common thoughts people with imposter syndrome may have include:ย  I don't deserve this success, I just got lucky. I'm not as smart or talented as they think I am. I'm afraid they will find out I don't know what I'm doing. Iโ€™m afraid they will see the โ€˜realโ€™ me and not like me for who I really am.ย  I have to work harder than others to prove myself and achieve my goals. I can't make any mistakes or ask for help, or they will think I'm incompetent.ย  Why do we experience Imposter Syndrome โ€œImposter syndrome is more common than we might think and something we may experience at different stages of life,โ€ mindset and confidence coach Francesca Nervegna tells us. With research suggesting that up to 70% of us may experience imposter syndrome in our lifetime, this fear-driven mindset can affect anyone at any time, regardless of their age, gender or profession.ย  There are many reasons why we may experience imposter syndrome, some of these include striving for perfectionism, our upbringing, facing a new challenge and social comparison.ย  โ€œPerfectionism is another way that self-sabotage and imposter syndrome can disguise themselves,โ€ explains Christina. โ€œHolding ourselves to unrealistic standards and expectations stops us from going after our dreams, let alone even trying. This happens when we are afraid of failing, of being seen, feeling vulnerable or not feeling as good as others.โ€ย  The environment in which we grew up in can also lead us to strive for perfectionism and experience imposter syndrome. โ€œPeople who grew up in environments with high expectations or where success was often compared to others' achievements may have internalised the belief that they need to constantly prove their worth,'' Christina adds.ย  Similarly, a big life change that involves taking the leap before we feel โ€˜readyโ€™, such as a new job or promotion, can trigger self-doubt and feelings of imposter syndrome.ย  We may experience imposter syndrome when we compare ourselves to others, either those around us or on social media. โ€œThe grass may seem greener on the other side, we might think that others are better than us and start to compare ourselves to them and compete with them in our minds,โ€ Francesca adds.ย  Christina echoes this: โ€œWe're constantly bombarded with messages that our worth is tied to our achievements and external validation. The pressure to meet these unrealistic standards can be overwhelming.โ€ Christina believes that social media makes this worse by only showing us the highlights, making it seem like everyone else has got everything together while we are struggling.ย  Stereotypes can also lead to feelings of imposter syndrome. โ€œIndividuals from underrepresented groups may feel added pressure to succeed and represent their group positively, which can contribute to imposter syndrome,โ€ Christina explains. โ€œThey might also face implicit or explicitย biases that undermine their confidence.โ€ How to beat Imposter Syndrome The first step to beating imposter syndrome is becoming aware of it and identifying that we have self-limiting beliefs. โ€œOnce we identify it, we are already one step ahead and we can start working on it,โ€ Francesca explains.ย  Acknowledge your feelings To start identifying your limiting beliefs and find clarity around why these thoughts or feelings are coming up, Francesca suggests journaling. Once you identify your negative thoughts and the beliefs that fuel them, you can start to work on overcoming them.ย  Christina suggests using a technique called cognitive reframing, which involves replacing your negative thoughts with more positive and realistic ones.ย  This could include something like:ย  I deserve this success because I worked hard for it and I have the right skills and qualifications.ย  I don't have to know everything, no one does. I can learn from my mistakes and ask for help when I need it. I deserve love and a fulfilling relationship because I offer kindness, respect, and genuine care. I donโ€™t need to be perfect in a relationship; no one is. Celebrate your achievements No matter how big or small, taking time to reflect on your accomplishments and celebrating your achievements will help to shift your mindset and reduce feelings of imposter syndrome. โ€œCreate a folder where you list down any positive feedback, milestones and accomplishments, or keep a journal with your successes, big & small. Come back to them whenever self-doubt creeps in,โ€ Christina advises.ย  Share your experiences Opening up to trusted friends about your experiences may help you to feel less alone, and connect with others around you who are also experiencing imposter syndrome. โ€œSometimes, just hearing others say theyโ€™ve felt the same way can be incredibly validating.โ€ Christina says.ย  Challenge negative thoughts Whenever you catch yourself thinking a negative thought, such as โ€˜Iโ€™m not good enoughโ€™, counter it with evidence that shows you itโ€™s untrue. โ€œOften, youโ€™ll find that the negative thoughts are baseless and you have far more examples of why you are good enough, exactly as you are. โ€œ Christina says.ย  Francesca often uses positive affirmations with her clients, to help them require their brain and replace old patterns and limiting beliefs with new ones.ย  โ€œYou can also use positive affirmations to rewire your brain and replace old patterns and limiting beliefs with new ones,โ€ Francesca adds. โ€œYour brain will believe anything that you tell it, if you are constantly affirming that you are an imposter and you are not good enough, you will keep believing it. On the other hand, thanks to neuroplasticity, you can reprogram your brain to embrace more positive thoughts and, in turn, boost your confidence.โ€ Shift to a growth mindset Beating imposter syndrome is all about shifting your mindset from striving for perfectionism to embracing growth. โ€œIf you are ready to stop self-sabotaging and stop letting your internal dialogue make you feel like an imposter you are going to have to let yourself be imperfect,โ€ says Chrsitna. She adds: โ€œUnderstand that mistakes and failures are part of life and a fundamental part of the learning process. Remember, courage comes first, confidence follows.โ€ Read more

Mushrooms: Overhyped or Undervalued?
Youโ€™ve probably seen mushrooms plastered all over Instagram by now, thrown into coffee, smoothies, and just about anything else. But letโ€™s be real, are they actually worth the hype, or just another passing fad in the wellness world? Fair question. With terms like โ€œsuperfoodโ€ thrown around like confetti, itโ€™s hard to know whatโ€™s legit and whatโ€™s just marketing fluff. But hereโ€™s the thing: mushrooms have been used for centuries in traditional medicine, and now modern science is backing up a lot of what ancient cultures have been saying all along. Mushrooms in Popular Culture Mushrooms have become more than just a wellnessย ingredient โ€” theyโ€™ve become a cultural phenomenon. From being plastered all over Instagram to making cameos in documentaries and even fine dining, these fungi are having a serious moment What do functional mushrooms do for you? The rise of โ€œfunctional mushroomsโ€ in wellness circles can be attributed to their ability to support immunity, stress relief, and physical performance. And while theyโ€™re trending now, itโ€™s important to remember that mushrooms have been a cornerstone in holistic health for centuries. With more people turning to natural, science-backed alternatives, mushrooms are making their mark as more than just a passing wellness trend. This new wave of mushroom interest shows no signs of slowing down. From health supplements to skincare, mushrooms have officially crossed over into the mainstream. A Glimpse Into the Past Mushrooms arenโ€™t new. Long before they were the star of your favourite influencerโ€™s morning brew, they were a cornerstone in ancient remedies. For example, in China, reishi was hailed as the โ€œMushroom of Immortalityโ€ for its ability to supposedly promote longevity and calm the mind. Meanwhile, chaga, used in Siberia, was brewed as a tea to boost immunity. Mushrooms have been doing the rounds in different cultures for millennia, which begs the questionโ€”why are we only now starting to appreciate them in the West? What Are Mushrooms Good For? Mushrooms might have some fancy history behind them, but what does modern science say? Letโ€™s hit some quick facts: Physical Performance: Ever heard of Cordyceps? These mushrooms were traditionally used by Tibetan herders to combat altitude sickness. Fast forward to today, and studies are showing cordyceps can help improve oxygen uptake during exercise, meaning you can push harder and go longer in your workouts. Immunity Boosting: Mushrooms like chaga and shiitake are loaded with beta-glucans. These are complex sugars that give your immune system a kick in the right direction by activating immune cells. Some pretty solid research backs this up, including a study published in the Journal of Traditional and Complementary Medicine. Stress Relief: Feeling a bit frazzled? Reishi is classed as an adaptogen, which means it helps your body manage stress. A study in 2012 found that reishi helped reduce fatigue and improve quality of life in people dealing with chronic stress. Bottom line: reishi is your go-to for a bit of Zen in this chaotic world. Recovery & Hydration: Heard of tremella? Itโ€™s also called the โ€œbeauty mushroom,โ€ but it does a lot more than just help with skin. Tremella supports hydration and recovery by boosting your bodyโ€™s production of hyaluronic acid, which helps with inflammation and overall recovery after a tough workout. Mushrooms in the Here and Now Look, some wellness trends come and go (remember the lemon water detoxes?), but mushrooms? Theyโ€™re here to stay. Mushroom health benefits stretch across so many areasโ€”immunity, stress relief, performanceโ€”that itโ€™s no wonder science is getting behind them now. But letโ€™s be clear: we didnโ€™t jump on the mushroom hype just because itโ€™s trendy. Back in 2017, we were the first in the UK to put mushrooms across a range of our products because we knew these fungi werenโ€™t just a fad. Which Is the Best Mushroom Supplement to Take? The Wellness Blend. Fast forward to now, and weโ€™ve gone all-in with The Wellness Blend, our mushroom coffee. Yeah, regular coffee is great, but when you mix it with tremella, chaga, cordyceps, reishi, maitake, and shiitake mushrooms, youโ€™re looking at a drink thatโ€™ll not only wake you up but help your mind and body perform at their peak. What makes The Wellness Blend unique. The fact that it contains ALL six functional mushrooms in one great product. Itโ€™s that simple. Overhyped or Still Undervalued? Itโ€™s easy to be skeptical of anything that gets too much hype, and youโ€™d be right to question the wellness industryโ€™s latest trends. But with mushrooms, I really think what weโ€™re seeing now is the result of centuries of use being validated by science, not just another fleeting craze. These are ingredients that have been trusted for generations and are finally being recognized for their full potential. Are they undervalued? We think so. Itโ€™s great that theyโ€™re finally getting the recognition they deserve. Now itโ€™s over to you to decide. Read more
