Rhodiola Rosea. No, that’s not the name the latest celebrity fragrance release. It’s a real tongue twister though, granted.

Rhodiola Rosea is one of the many fantastic active ingredients found in The Fit Protein and has long been used across the world for it’s fantastic health benefits. Whether you’ve heard of it by now or not, though, you may now be wondering, what is Rhodiola Rosea? Where can I find it, and should I be incorporating Rhodiola Rosea into my diet and daily routine? Let’s find out.

(Spoiler alert...yes, absolutely).

What is Rhodiola Rosea

Found in the coldest areas and regions of Europe and parts of Asia, Rhodiola Rosea is a naturally grown herb. Many people have to climb high up into mountainous areas to find the plant, but luckily for you, the root has been added to many fitness supplementations due to the discovery that Rhodiola has been discovered to be an adaptogen. Get in!

What is an adaptogen?

If you’re new around here, you may not know about adaptogens. We’re pretty big on them here at Innermost. Put simply, an adaptogen is a non-toxic plant that help the body adjust to stress, whether that be mental, chemical, or physical.

Adaptogens work by restoring your body to the natural state of homeostasis, that allows us to be cool, calm and collected and perform to the best of our ability.

Anyway… science lesson over. Let’s get back to Rhodiola Rosea.

The Rhodiola root

Whilst there’s more to the plant than just a root, the root is what we’re interested in. The root contains over 140 active ingredients that holds a whole host of health benefits that we’re about to break down, and the most famous of these being use of the herb in natural medicine is for the relief of anxiety, stress, and depression symptoms.

Rhodiola health benefits

We wouldn’t have included Rhodiola Root in our products if it didn’t bring the goods to the table now, would we? Of course not.

In addition to being used for thousands of years for it’s effectiveness in treating anxiety and heightened stress levels, Rhodiola root boasts the following health benefits:

  • Reduced feelings of fatigue

One of the biggest reasons for lack of motivation is feeling too tired after work, right? By integrating daily supplements of Rhodiola Rosea into your diet you can get an extra energy boost.

  • Increased brain functioning

Those on the look out to increase their performance might not just be thinking about their physical performance. In fact, the two go hand-in-hand.

A boost in your brain functioning not only improves your mood, productivity, overall wellbeing and of course, your performance! It’s a win-win on all accounts.

  • Boost in exercise performance

Struggling a bit when it comes to your workouts recently? Ready to take it up a notch and improve your stamina? Rhodiola root can help with that.

Don’t believe us? A study conducted by the Journal of Sports Medicine in 2014 revealed that daily doses of Rhodiola root supplements (such as through the addition of The Fit Protein to your routine) led to a great increase in exercise performance without negatively affecting energy levels. Neat.

When should I take Rhodiola Rosea supplementations?

So, amazingly, the effects of Rhodiola rosea supplementations can be felt just thirty minutes after being ingested, and continue for up to six hours, so it’s a great addition to your morning protein shake to set you up properly for the day. It’s best to take supplementations including Rhodiola Rosea on an empty stomach, and at the beginning of your day to get the full benefit of the adaptogen.

Summary

There’s a reason that Rhodiola Rosea root has been being used for hundreds of years.

If you’re looking for a delicious, easy to implement and long-lasting rhodiola supplementation, try out The Fit Protein. Curated to support repair and recovery, boost energy and performance and give you that all-important boost of Rhodiola Root, it’s science backed and effective. Why not give it a try? Our trial packs provide the perfect opportunity to do so.

The Dangers of Silica
Ever opened a sachet of hydration powder, only to have a puff of dust cloud waft up into your nostrils? You're not imagining it. Most electrolyte drinks on the market contain silica - a synthetic anti-caking agent added to keep powders dry, free-flowing, and easy to manufacture at scale. It’s one of those behind-the-scenes ingredients that doesn’t need to be there… unless your priority is speed and profit margins, not people. Let’s break this down. What is silica? Silica (aka silicon dioxide) is a compound found in sand, quartz, those little sachets that come with new shoes, and yes - in many processed foods and supplement powders. In this industry, it’s added to prevent clumping and help powders flow smoothly and zip through high-speed packaging machines. It’s not added for your health. It’s added for efficiency.  And here’s the thing: silica is not inherently dangerous when eaten in small quantities — it occurs naturally in some foods, after all. But when it’s inhaled, it’s a whole different story. Let’s talk about silicosis Silicosis is a serious lung disease caused by breathing in fine particles of silica.  Many of these powders are so bone-dry and ultrafine that you can’t help but inhale a bit when you open a sachet. And while regulators have deemed it “safe” for consumption, they’re not telling you what happens when you’re breathing that dust in day after day. We think it matters. Why it’s used anyway (and why we don’t). Silica makes life easier for big manufacturers. When a powder is dry and ultra-fine, it runs like a dream through industrial machinery. That means more sachets filled per minute, fewer machine stoppages, and higher production yields. In other words: cheaper, faster, more profitable. It’s what most brands do - especially the ones backed by big investors who demand a return on their money. That’s just the way it works. Innermost is proudly independent. Something we don’t talk about often enough is that we’re 100% self-owned. No outside investors. No pressure to cut corners to meet someone else’s margin goals. That means we get to put your health - not shareholder value - first. We created The Hydrate Blend to be 100% natural, functional, and free from synthetic fillers. No nasties. No shortcuts. And absolutely no silica. Yes, it might cost a little more than the cheapest stuff on the market - but it’s better for your body, and your lungs. Let’s call it what it is. Most people will never think twice about inhaling the powder that wafts up out of their electrolyte powder. But we do. Because we know the supplement industry loves to hide behind shortcuts and call it innovation. Loves to throw in cheap ingredients because they’re easier - not because they’re better. Loves to race to the bottom on cost while pretending they’re leading on health. That’s not us. That’s never been us. We’re not here to cut corners. We’re here to raise standards. And sometimes that means doing things the hard way - like formulating a hydration product without any silica in it, knowing full well it’ll be way harder to do. But your health is worth the effort.
